Shift Knob: MGW Gripper Shift Knob
Rating:
Pros: Looks and feels great.
Cons: None.
**Update** It appears that MGW has stopped making Miata parts. I don’t know why. Miata owners must not have been doing enough business with them to make it worth it. It’s to bad, I really liked their Miata accessories.
I have never understood the fascination that so many Miata owners have with the Voodoo shift knobs so I was very happy when I found the MGW shift knob. They sell two styles of knobs. I went with the gripper style in the chrome finish with the “M” script on top. The craftsmanship of the piece is first rate and I love the way it feels in my hand. George at MGW is also a great man to do business with and I love recommending his accessories to others.
Installation is extremely easy–you just unscrew the stock knob and then screw the MGW knob on, just screw it down as far as you can while keeping the pattern on top straight, then tighten the set screw with the supplied allen wrench.
I have had several emails asking me how the knob compares to the stock Miata knob in regard to height, so here is a side by side comparison.
The bottom picture is just another pic that I took that I thought turned out great except that the chrome is too bright. Still a cool shot though.

I have a 2001 Miata Convertible SE 6 speed. It has buckskin leather seats and boot for shifter. Shifter boot is worn and I need a replacement. Do you have these? If so what is price.
Thanks

Hi, I came across to your post while I was looking for shift knob for my boyfriend as a Xmas gift. Looks like this is what he would love – short, not light, easy to grip, simple, etc. .. However, I couldn’t find this anywhere else. Do you maybe have any suggestion on where I might be able to find this?
I also found this : http://www.gscreations.com/mgw-corvette-gripper-shift-knob/
Can I use that on a Miata? My boyfriend’s Miata is 1990 M-edition, the one with popping eyes and dark blue. I look forward to seeing your response! (Finger crossed as I know this is so many years ago..)
Happy holiday!
Best,
Aiko
